Fantastic René HERBST (1891- 1982) dining chair “Sandow” in nickel-plated tubular metal and black bungee cords. Height 81 cm, width 43 cm, depth 47 cm, sitting height 46,5 cm. Strong design, chair in good condition wear consistent with age and use. Amazing presence and gives a super WOW impact. Great for an exclusive interior space.

The Sandow was first released to the public at the Paris Salon d’Automne des Artistes Litterateurs in 1929.

René Herbst was a French furniture designer and architect, best remembered for his advocacy of the industrialisation of furniture as a form of modern art. 1925 is for him a pivotal year: he participates in the International Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris where he shows this time a stronger commitment to the search for modernity. He advocates the industrialization of furniture with the use of metal (including nickel-plated tube), glass and rubber.
